"Let the Music Play On" Fundraising Appeal: We Did It!

Thank you everyone for helping us to exceed our goal!

Thank you to everyone who donated to our "Keep the Music Playing" fundraising appeal. Not only did we reach our goal to raise $5000 but we exceeded it!

Thanks to you, our 4th Floor residents will continue to enjoy regular visits from our professional entertainers Pete Campbell and Al Foreman for another year.

Pete Campbell offers his special thanks to you all:

I have been a part of the Columbus "family" for many years. I use the word "family" because that word really describes the feeling I get when I play here. It is one of my favourite places to entertain because the staff don't only "care for" the residents, they "care about" them, and this marries perfectly with my approach to playing music for seniors...

As a way of describing what it is I do, I came up with the phrase "Life Enrichment Through Music". Rather than assume the role of "therapist" when I play, I find the greatest rewards in becoming friends with the residents that I see regularly. I always say "What's better than having a friend come to visit? A friend with a guitar!".

Nothing makes me happier than to make each resident feel noticed, known and special. I will learn songs by their favourite singers or a special sont that has had significance in their lives. For my friend Gladys whose original language is Spanish, I have learned "Guantanamera", "La Cucaracha" and "La Bamba". I know that my Spanish leaves much to be desired but when I play one of these songs for "mi amiga" she will usually start to dance and ahuge smile crosses her face.

My friend Dorothy Gratias (whom I call "Goodness Gracious") and I have a series of jokes we share around the song "You Picked A Fine Time To Leave Me Lucille". We laugh together as we talk about "the seal that got loos (the Loose-Seal) and waddled around on the land with a fish on his face". Sometimes she laughs so hard that I have to remind her to breath!

I have recently had the change to get to know Ruth P. Ruth as had some rough times the last while. Quite often when I greet her, she barely respons but when I start to sinnk, her face lights up, her eyes sparkle with life and her smile brightens the whole room! Seeing Ruth come to life like this makes my day.

I feel appreciated at Columbus Residence and I know that the stafff and management share in my intention to make the residents "happy in their home". I feel blessed to be part of such a loving and caring team, or as I call it "The Columbus Family".

I also want to sincerely thank all the wonderful family members for their generous donations which will "Let the Music Play On" for another year!

Email Security Alert for Family & Friends

We have had some reports of family and friends of our residents receiving fraudulent "phishing" emails. These emails appear to be coming from someone at Columbus Residence and usually refer to some kind of invoicing matter and a request to click on a link to another unrelated website.

Columbus Residence would never send an invoice, statement or other document in an email that requires you to click on a link. If we were to send anything it would be attached as a document and NOT as a hyperlink to a website.

If you receive a suspicious email, do not click on any links. Just delete the message.
