Christmas Events!

December Calendar Highlight Events:

December is always a very eventful month at Columbus Residence and this year is no exception.

"Light Up for Christ" We begin our Advent journey with an evening of Scripture, prayer, hymns and the illumination of our courtyard on Tuesday December 4th at 7 p.m. Our special guests are the Most Reverend Michael Miller, CSB Archbishop of Vancouver and the St. Patrick's 9AM Choir. A reception of hospitality will follow the service.

Christmas Tree Trimming Join us in the the Main Lounge on Thursday December 6th at 2:00 p.m. for a festive holiday party. We will trim our Main Floor Christmas tree and enjoy some sweet treats!

Family Night Celebrate the holiday season and join us for an evening of music and fun on Thursday December 13th at 7 p.m. The "Blue Velvet Duo" will be here to provide the musical entertainment. Refreshments will be served following the performance.

4th Floor Christmas Party Family and friends are welcome to join us on Thursday December 20th at 2:30 p.m. for a holiday party with our special care residents. Angie Ongaro will provide the musical entertainment

New Year's & Birthday Party Join us as we ring in the New Year and celebrate our December birthdays on Thursday December 27th at 2:45 p.m. in the Main Dining Room.

Donations Needed!

Our annual Christmas Fair will be held on Saturday, December 8th. from 1:00 to 3:30p.m.

Sponsored and organized by our Family Council, this event gives holiday shoppers a chance to purchase handmade crafts and delicious holiday baked goods. Raffle tickets for the Family Council's annual Christmas raffle draw will also be available at the sale.

We also welcome and appreciate donations of handcrafted items and/or baked goods for our sale. Donations will be accepted up to Friday, December 7th. and may be brought to our Recreation Department. For more information about this sale and/or raffle, please contact Paloma Leon in our Recreation Department (Ext 124).

We look forward to seeeing you at the sale!

Join Us for Family Night Dec 13th.

Our annual Family Night will take place on Thursday December 13th. at 7:00 p.m.

Join us for an evening of festive fun featuring the music of the "Blue Velvet Duo". Refreshments and 50/50 draw will be held after the musical performance.

4th Floor Christmas Party

Our 4th Floor Christmas Party will be held on Thursday December 20th at 2:30 p.m.

We offer special menus on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. These are always popular days for guest meal requests and if you are planning to join a resident for any of these special meals we highly recommend that you make your reservations early as our seating capacity is limited. Arrangements for guest meals may be made through our Front Office during regular office hours. Telephone: 604.321.4405 Ext 100.

Resident Social Leaves Over the Holidays

We would appreciate the help of family and friends by providing us with information regarding any resident social leave plans over the holiday season. Having this information in advance will help our staff plan for meals and prepare social leave medication packages. This information may be left with any one of the nurses on duty or you may leave a message at our Front Office.

Volunteers Needed to Help Take Down Christmas Lights January 12th

What goes up must come down! We need volunteers to help us take down the many strings of outside Christmas lights. Our scheduled "un-decorating day" is Saturday January 12th from 9am to 2pm.

Volunteers should be prepared for rain or shine! Lunch will be provided.

If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up at our Front Office or call us during regular office hours (Ext 100).

Light Up for Christ

Our annual Light Up for Christ celebration will be held on Tuesday, December 4th at 7:00 p.m.

On this evening of Scripture, prayer, and hymns we light the candles of our Advent Wreath and illuminate our courtyard. A reception will follow the service.

Family Council News

There is no Family Council meeting scheduled for the month of December. The next Family Council meeting is scheduled for January 28th at 4:00 p.m.

Monthly meetings are usually held on the last Monday of the month at 4:00 p.m. If you would like more information about our Family Council please contact Paloma Leon in our Recreation Department (Ext 124) or visit our FAMILY COUNCIL webpage.

Flu Season Precautions

Prepare Yourself for Flu Season

Flu season is here. For the duration of flu season, visitors who have NOT received their flu vaccination will be asked to wear a mask while they are in the building. Masks are available at the Front Reception or from the 2nd Floor Nurse.

Family and friends who have not yet received their annual flu vaccination are strongly encouraged to do so.

Please remember to wash your hands or use hand sanitizer when entering the building, and again when leaving and if you have any cold or flu symptoms, please do not visit until you are free from symptoms for 48 hours.
