Pastoral Care: Our Faith is Our Foundation

Pastoral Care is a core service

Our Pastoral Care team offers
prayer and support to all our residents

Our founders, the Knights of Columbus, believe that spirituality can be a source of strength to all people. While respecting the various spiritual practices and traditions of others, our founders follow the Catholic Christian tradition.

Catholic Christians believe that an awareness of God's love adds, Hope, meaning and motivation to life. Jesus teaches us to love ourselves and others, comfort and heal those in need, treat human life with dignity, and act with respect and compassion toward all.

Today, our spiritual roots invite us to care for in a prayerful and innovative spirit, the needs of all members of our community

Providing Hope, Meaning and Motivation

We believe that spirituality can be a source of strength for residents, and can add hope, meaning and motivation to their lives, especially in the ongoing transitions experienced in the aging process. Our Pastoral Care Program is a core service at Columbus Residence, and is funded through fundraising, donations and the support of our founders, the Knights of Columbus. Our Pastoral Care Program and Chapel are available to all our residents and tenants to support them in their religious, spiritual or philosophical beliefs and practices. In addition to denominational and interdenominational services, Pastoral Care also provides one to one support to residents when they find it difficult to express themselves; and assistance in maintaining the ways that bring peace and joy to their lives.

Worship Services

A visit with Archbishop Miller

Visiting clergy come to Columbus Residence to bring Holy Mass and other worship services on a weekly and monthly basis. Catholic residents can attend Holy Mass twice weekly, receive daily Holy Communion, receive the Anointing of the Sick, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. They can also participate in weekly Eucharistic Adoration and Rosary. Other denominational services are held monthly including an Anglican Communion service. Also, a hymn sing is held weekly on our Special Care Unit and interdenominational services are held on Thanksgiving Day, Remembrance Day, Canada Day and the World Day of the Sick.

Our Chapel

Our chapel is the heart and haven of Columbus Residence. We are blessed and privileged to have a Catholic chapel with the Blessed Sacrament. Residents, families, staff, volunteers, and outside guests of all faiths come and sit in Jesus' loving presence. It is a place for residents and staff to come to gather inner strength and to listen quietly to His voice.

The chapel is located on the Main Floor; it is open 24 hours a day and it is easily accessible to residents and families. Family and friends are always welcome to join residents for our services.
