Our Accommodations

Columbus Residence consists of two buildings:

Our Care Residence

The Residence
Entrance to our Care Building

Opened in 1990, our four-storey care building accommodates 58 residents on the second and third floors and 18 residents on our fourth floor Special Care Unit. We strive to create the look and feel of home as well as to foster a sense of community.

The main floor is a centre of activity and offers a number of communal areas including a large lounge area with fireplace, piano and big screen television, a sunny dining room, recreation room, hair salon, and our administrative offices. Our chapel is also located on the main floor.

Resident rooms are located on the second, third and fourth floors. The floors are decorated in contemporary shades and the vinyl flooring in the hallways resembles hardwood. Each of these floors has a care station, lounge area, sunroom, and a bathing room with a bathtub and a wheelchair accessible shower.

Resident Bedroom Suites

Residence Suite
Bedrooms are large and bright

All rooms are private except for one which is shared by two residents. Each of the bedroom suites has a two-piece ensuite bathroom and all suites are equipped with individual thermostats, a large screened window with curtains and a large closet. The suites come completely furnished with an electric bed, a desk and a nightstand with a lockable drawer.

We encourage residents to decorate their bedroom suites with their own familiar furnishings (except for the bed), artwork, photos and other personal mementos to create a space that is uniquely their own.

A personal nurse call system is installed in each room beside the bed and in the washroom. This call system is connected directly to the telephone handset carried by all care staff.

All rooms are equipped with connections for telephone and cablevision however these services are not provided by Columbus Residence. You will need to make your own installation and billing arrangements with the telephone and cable provider of your choice.

Garden and Outdoor Areas

Garden Patio

Columbus Residence is situated on a tree-lined street. More trees and garden areas with seasonal plantings surround our building. Our main entrance courtyard area is beautifully landscaped with a walking handrail and many comfortable cedar benches.

Our main floor dining room has large windows overlooking an open green space. There is a protected, glassed-in patio area adjacent to the Sun Room on the second floor, “Olive’s Garden” is a delightful garden with seating area and a greenhouse.

Our “Garden of Hope” is a therapeutic patio garden located on our fourth floor. This large garden area features a specially designed walking path, a mural and garden with spiritual theme, a fountain, flower gardens and trellises, and cedar patio furniture. While this garden was designed with special care residents in mind, all residents and their visitors are invited to visit the Garden of Hope.
